Who doesn't like great deals? Save money, have the satisfaction of receiving something you wanted for a lesser price.. it's a great thing I tell you.
Which is why I was so cheerful when I walked into The Greedy Pig the other day. Armed with a $25 coupon (I paid $12), I was very ready.
I was actually expecting a larger selection of drinks on the menu since the place seemed to run more along the lines of a bar/lounge and their food menu wasn't extensive. No worries though. Just placing the comment.
Especially because they were more than happy to make me a custom drink out of, you guessed it. Baileys. Consisting of baileys, blackberry liquor and stoli, I liked it, except for the fact that the fruitiness hit me with the asian flush. I think. Maybe after two sips?
Youwishyouwereascoolasme;;
My friend on the other hand grabbed himself the 1516 Bavarian Lager.
The Cheese and Butcher's Plate ($19) accompanied our drinks. They write a list of the available selection up by the bar, and you choose any five meats or cheeses. Personally, I think this was quite a bit pricey for what it was, but I thought there was good quality in the selection (I thought the cuts on this plate were better and of greater quality than what was presented in the charcuterie plate at Alibi)
Starting from the top left and going clockwise: Guiness cheese, kalamata olive paste, Idon'tactuallyknowsomesortofsalami..?, cognac pate, coppa (cured pork shoulder butt), olives, apricot jelly, garlic in balsamic vinegar, apples, and brie.
They were served with bread and crostini, neither of which were fancy in any way, but they did their part and we had refills : )
It really wasn't necessary and I actually had most of it packed to go, but this was the Ratatouille ($9) (I wasn't expecting the cheese+butcher plate to fill me like it did). Night was really starting to come in so the photo is rather blurry, very sorry;; Solid, but not outstanding. I felt that there wasn't enough herb undertones, but the vegetables came piping hot and had a great texture. Loved the chewy buttery bread that it came with, and I actually used it for the remaining cheese/butcher plate.
My friends main was the Crispy Duck Confit ($15). Personally, we thought the portion was a tad small and completely average. The flavours of the salad garnishes didn't compliment the saltiness or the crispier/chewier texture of the duck.
So while the I won't say the food blew me away, I had a lot of fun here at The Greedy Pig. The service was great, it was a nice evening, and I love this places character. Maybe I wouldn't have been too happy if my $25 coupon didn't cover my costs (and it -just- covered my costs), but beer labeled as health drinks? Oh Greedy Pig, I dig your attitude, yes I do.

Hey, beer is food, you know! :P
What I find funny is that you went to a place with "pig" in its name and nothing "pig" was ordered. OK, some culd cut that contains some pork but... :P
My funny/sad story: I went to the Greedy Pig on a weekend for lunch just to find a sign they weren't open until 2:00 p.m., despite their site they mention they (should be) open at 11:30 a.m. >_<
Hm~ I don't know, but I do know a few individuals that literally -live- off the substance, so hey.
And that's downright depressing.. Hopefully they stick to their times more often, I would love to see how they do their lunches (specifically their sandwiches.. nudgenudgewinkwink)!
