DB Bistro

I know. Haven't posted in. Well. Forever. I have no excuse. I've been back for a while. This has been on the backburner for a least a week, so I guess I should finally post it up. A friend of mine wanted to treat me to a welcome back dinner, how could I refuse? DB Bistro, after passing it so many times in transit, visiting both Mistral and Thomas Haas (to the restaurants right and left), and walking past it multiple times, I was finally going to pay it a visit.

They still have their three course meals going on, I really wanted to give it a go, and it seems like a great deal, but we had some other plans already in mind. They also have daily specials, which also ended up being a deciding factor in ordering individually.

A few different types of bread. Not much to speak on, except that I did fancy the garlic loaf (not seen in picture)

They started us off with an amuse-bouche, nothing overly complicated. Salmon, cucumber, and I believe chives... (??), nice, refreshing, and a great way to start off.

This was the daily special that the waiter let us know about. Deboned quail served upon a heirloom tomato salad. personally, I didn't enjoy the texture of the quail skin, which was cooked to rather rubbery.. But the tomato's tasted wonderful with all the other elements combined.

-This- however, is what we came here for. The Top Sirloin Burger Filled with Braised Short Ribs, Black Truffle Served on a Toasted Parmesan Bun, Pommes Frites ($28) [yes I copied that off the website...]. Because it is still spot prawn season, we got a spot prawn to try out as well, and split the burger for both of us.
Wow, I really enjoyed this. The patty was moist, the parmesan bun complimented the ingredients, and while it was messy, I found a way to eat it quite comfortably with my hands, haha;

No I do not have an expansive encyclopedia knowledge of food, and so I can't say that the black truffle was a star in this burger, mostly because I wouldn't have known if it was there or not. I will however say that I felt there was something that gave the burger a lot more punch, much like spices would.
My friend however, who knows what a black truffle truly tastes like, said that it was evident in the burger.

I'm almost sure we were given twice the amount of fries because we notified them that we were going to share the burger (therefore they served two individual dishes with half a burger on each plate).... if you're ever looking for more fries ; D

spot prawn didn't wow me, but after the dredged oil logged food I've been eating, I still enjoyed it muchly.

Condiments to go along with the burger.. horseradish aoili, mustard..(?), ketchup. We loved the aioli, used it all up.

And despite the fact that we were completely stuffed, we needed a dessert~
Pick Me Up Sundae Chocolate Cremeux, Bailey's Ice Cream, Biscotti, Mocha Foam ($10).

I'm not a huge fan of mousse/pudding/cremeux textures generally. I guess this wasn't really an exception, but along with the biscotti cookie and icecream, I couldn't say no to this. With just the slight hint of coffee, and chocolaty goodness, I did like. Presentation was wonderful as well.

Our other dessert didn't work as well for me. My fault, I'm always rooting for the apple dessert, but I found this to be a bit bland, uninteresting, complete with a slightly soggy crust...

All in all, a enjoyable night. Our server kept us informed and taken care of (although am I the only one who is not a fan of being overly upsold..?)
